3 “Facts” About Rosacea That Are Not True

you. A lot has been said and written about Rosacea, but little of it is based
on scientific evidence, which inevitably will make you wonder what to trust and

Rosacea Is Just A Cosmetic Problem

Sadly this is not true. Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that causes redness and appearance of “bumps” (sometimes can be mistaken for acne) on the skin’s surface. Alcohol And Coffee Cause Rosacea

One of the
most common misconceptions about Rosacea is that it is caused by heavy alcohol intake
and regular consumption of caffeinated beverages. While it is true that drinking
alcohol can make the condition worse (for those who already have it) it is not
what causes Rosacea in the first place. Same applies to coffee – if consumed very
hot, it can trigger an outbreak, but caffeine itself is not responsible for the
development of this unpleasant skin condition.

The thing
about alcohol and caffeine is that they affect the normal absorption of vitamin
C. Vitamin C deficiency causes the walls of the blood vessels to become thinner,
hence more fragile, which leads to the appearance of more broken capillaries. Apart
from that alcohol dilates the blood vessels making them even more visible and
causing more redness. Yet, though it is true that alcohol aggravates the problem,
attributing the development of Rosacea to heavy drinking is totally wrong.

Rosacea Is Curable

as much as I’d want to tell you this is true, it isn’t. Rosacea is a chronic
skin condition that affects people from all ethnicities, primarily middle-aged adults.
According to some sources Rosacea is hereditary (or at least there is a certain
genetic aspect involved). Though the condition is relatively common and not
enough is known about what causes it one thing is known for sure – just like
atopic dermatitis, Rosacea can’t be cured – it’s something that you learn to
live with.

Please don’t
get me wrong, though – Rosacea it’s not a verdict! By making certain changes in your
