DIY acne mask for healing acne-prone skin

By now, most of you have already heard of Tamanu oil and Tea tree oil, and know that both have been proven to be a good natural anti-acne alternative. We decided to share with you a very simple, yet effective recipe for a homemade treatment that reduces inflammation and at the same time heals your skin. Let’s first go through some interesting information about the ingredients and then we’ll start mixing.

What are the benefits of Tea Tree Oil?

Ah, what can we say here that hasn’t been said already? Tea tree oils is
one of the most popular natural weapons for treating acne and it was tested and proven to work by many (happy-to-have-dealt-with-acne) people and also by a group of scientists that published a comparative study of tea-tree oil versus benzoylperoxide in the treatment of acne in the Medical Journal of Australia in 1990.

The oil is produced by distillation of the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia – a plant native to Australia. It contains terpenoids (naturally occurring lipids with strong anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antiseptic activity) and is the best known
natural alternative of the popular benzoyl peroxide (main ingredient in most of the anti-acne treatments available on the market) because it has fewer side effects and is less likely to irritate or dry out your skin.

Tea tree oil is also one of our top 3 natural healers as chosen by staff at La Mav!

DIY Acne Mask recipe: Tamanu Oil and Tea Tree oil

Ingredients:

5ml Tamanu Oil

2 drops of Tea Tree Oil

Step 1: Mix 5ml of Tamanu oil with 2 drop of Tea Tree oil (3 if your skin is not very sensitive and easily irritated, since essential oils are very concentrated and not all skins tolerate them).

Step 2: Apply the mixture on your face, after exfoliation (in order to allow the healing ingredients to penetrate in depth) and leave for 15 minutes.

Step 3: Soak what’s left from the oil on the skin’s surface and.. you are free to go to bed!

In the morning you’ll see the difference. Plus – if you are persistent enough, the major change in the overall condition of your skin won’t be late.

The results

With regular application, the mask will reduce the appearance of blemishes (plus heal the existing ones) and will make your skin smoother, healthier and more glowing. Super easy and super effective! Try it!

Tamanu Oil skin benefits

Tamanu oil, also known as “
the beauty oil” is obtained from cold pressed nuts from Tamanu trees (either Calophyllum inophyllum or Calophyllum tacamahaca). It has a specific rich green color and light nutty smell. Rich in fatty acids like linoleic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid, palmitic acid, and the not-so-famous, but quite intriguing callophyllic acid, the oil has a great variety of properties that your skin can benefit from.

It contains antioxidants, coumarine and calophyllolide (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent) which make the green oil a
powerful antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and soothing agent, potential enough to suppress bacteria growth and help you deal with breakouts. It’s also well-known for its skin restorative properties (it boosts new tissue formation) which are especially beneficial for sun damaged skin, or skin that has scars, redness and imperfections left from already healed blemishes.
