Homemade Moisturizing Body Butter
and we are cooking again! Why? First – because we love DIY beauty! Second –
because we know that huge percentage of the body products on the market are
dangerous chemicals and we want them out of our lives! Third…
because it’s fun!
prepare a very simple, two-ingredients-only, body butter with jojoba oil and
coconut oil – the perfect natural treat for your dehydrated skin! So what are
we waiting for? Grab the oils and let’s get started!
usual, we’ve chosen to share with you a recipe that is easy and quick to
prepare and doesn’t require a lot of ingredients. For today’s moisturizing body
butter you will need the following:
- 1 cup coconut oil
- ½ cup jojoba oil
- Essential oil of choice (optional)
- Mixing bowl
- Glass jar
coconut oil and put it into the bowl. Start adding the jojoba oil little by
little and mix with the mixer, in order to make the mixture more homogenous.
Add 15-20 drops of your favorite essential oil. Make sure you’ve tested it on
your skin beforehand, so you can minimize the risk of getting allergic reaction
– don’t forget that essential oils are very concentrated and they have to be
use with caution. Do not add essential oils if you are pregnant.
mixture is ready, put it into the glass jar and store it in the fridge or at
temperatures below 25C degrees.
How To Use The Body Butter
I am not
planning to teach you how to apply body products (I am sure you are already a
pro), but I’d like to share with you a few tips that will allow you to get the
most of your homemade body butter. First – if you have 5 extra minutes, exfoliate your body under the shower – this way you will remove the dead cells
from the skin’s surface and ensure better absorption of the active ingredients.
Second – apply the body butter straight after you get out of the shower – your
pores will be open from the heat and the butter will literally melt into your
skin, locking the moisture in and leaving your skin hydrated and soft. Lastly –
start by applying small amount of product and if you find it to be not enough, add
more. Don’t forget that your skin absorbs as much as it needs – using too much
product won’t give you better results, but will only make your skin feel heavy
and greasy – something that we’d prefer to avoid, right?
Being suitable for oily as well
as dry, sensitive skin, Jojoba oil is probably the best oil to pick from the
great variety of oils available on the market.
Jojoba oil has composition close
to the sebum our skin naturally produces, which is actually pretty amazing.Jojoba oil is known to be one of the best natural moisturizers, plus – it has waxy
like properties. Once applied on the skin this miraculous oil will form a thin protective
layer that will lock the moisture in and leave your skin silky smooth and
Coconut oil is our all-time favorite
(the entire La Mav team loves it!) Not only it smells ah-ma-zing (like piña
colada, mmm) but it also transforms the appearance of dry, flaky skin in no
time. Not to mention it has velvety texture which makes the application feel
like a beautifying home spa ritual. It restores and rejuvenates the skin,
because of its strong healing properties. Last but not least – it’s known to be
one of the best skin softening oils out there!
