Do La Mav Products Contain Palm Oil?

We do not use Palm Oil in any of our products. However, some of the ingredients may have derivatives of Palm Oil, used in the process of extraction of the ingredient. All suppliers of the ingredients in our products must submit a RSPO certificate to state the palm oil derivatives are from established sustainable farms.
The only two ingredients in our products, which may use palm oil derivatives in their extraction, are:
1) Cetearyl Glucose, Cetearyl Alcohol
2) Glyceryl Stearate Citrate

Does La Mav Test On Animals?

No. La Mav is proud to be a member of Choose Cruelty Free (CCF) – an independent Australian organisation that accredits skin, body and toiletry products and is strictly against animal testing. We do not use any animal ingredient in our range. We only conduct research and testing on human volunteers and ourselves.

What Are Antioxidants?

Antioxidants are compounds that protect (and neutralizes) free radical cell damage that leads to premature ageing or even cancer. Free radicals are produced in the skin by many environmental stresses mainly pollution and UV rays. La Mav products are full of Anti-oxidants (which makes them perfect anti-ageing products along with many other anti-ageing properties).

Why Don’t La Mav Products Contain Any Sunscreen?

La Mav products are for use morning and night whereas a sunscreen should be used every 3 hours depending on the SPF factor. We strongly recommend using Mineral Makeup that provides a light physical barrier over La Mav products.

What Is PH?

The pH is a potential of Hydrogen, which ranges from 0 to 14 and the pH scale measures how acidic or basic a substance is.

The pH of a healthy skin is slightly acidic and averages about 5.4-6 (Source – PubMed). The acidic environment of skin protects it from overgrowth of microorganisms (natural flora of the skin). When this balance is broken the skin becomes alkaline which can lead to overgrowth of bacteria causing skin breakouts, redness, infection, dryness or flakiness. The pH level of all La Mav products falls between 5 – 6.

What Are Emollients?

Emollients are substances that soften and soothe the skin.

How Can La Mav Be Suitable For All Skin Types?

o Firstly our ingredients are carefully selected. They help restore skin’s natural balance, and at the same time do not irritate sensitive skin
o Secondly La Mav uses CERTIFIED ORGANIC ingredients in their purest natural form. Apart from that we do not use any synthetic ingredients.

This makes our Anti-ageing range unique and suitable for all skin types. As with any new product, if your skin is sensitive we recommend doing a patch test before using any product.

How Should I Store La Mav Products?

La Mav products should be stored below 25°C in a dry environment. Protect from direct sunlight. Do not store below 5°C. It is advised not to store La Mav products in the cars as high temperatures reached in the cars can affect the quality of the natural products.

What Is The Shelf Life Of La Mav Products?

La Mav products have an unopened shelf life of 24 months from the date of manufacture. The expiry date is printed on each product. The product should be used within 6 months after opening.

The Airless Pump Mechanism Of My Product Doesn’t Seem To Work, What Do I Do?

The airless pump dispensers work on an airless pump mechanism. Sometimes an air bubble is formed at the time of packaging, which can block the pumping mechanism. We apologise in advance if this happens and the container can be unblocked by following these simple steps:

o Remove the silver base of the container.
o Remove the lid and unscrew the actuator so that the product level is clearly visible
o Very gently push upwards from below until product reaches close to the neck leaving enough space for the actuator
o Screw the actuator normally and pump as normal
o If you are experiencing any further difficulties please call us on 1300 0LA MAV.

How Do I Unblock My Airless Pump Dispenser?

If not used for a long time the actuator tip of airless pump dispenser can become blocked. If this happens simply unblock it with a clean needle.

Where Do All The Ingredients Come From?

Our ingredients come from a variety of certified organic sources (natural origin) and are extracted by natural processing aids for example cold press extraction process, steam distillation etc. We have strict in-house quality control specifications for each ingredient that the vendor has to meet in order to secure our order. This ensures that our ingredients are safe for the environment and us.

What Are The Benefits Of Essential Oils In Skin Care?

The essential oils are derived from the different parts of plants – flowers, leaves, bark, seeds, roots, wood and fruits. They have been used for many years for their therapeutic properties like:

o Anti-ageing
o Stimulate local circulation
o Anti-inflammatory
o Antiseptic and anti-fungal
o Skin penetration

Why La Mav Does Not Use Aqua Or Water In Any Of Their Products?

We believe in incorporating maximum therapeutic ingredients in our products. We use Certified Organic Hydrosols as a substitute for water. It is used as a vehicle or base in all of our skin care range. The hydrosols possess the same therapeutic and medicinal properties as their counterpart essential oils.
Note: Since some of the bio-actives we incorporate in our formulas are extracted with water, we are obliged to list "water"  on certain ingredients lists. Nevertheless, this doesn't mean the product itself contains water.

How Can I Avoid These Chemicals In Skincare Products?

Read the labels very carefully and only choose those products that do not contain any of the prohibitive chemicals. Secondly for your own peace of mind look for the seal of various certification bodies on the labels.

We are proud to announce that La Mav is:
o Free from all nasty chemicals
o Has OFC certification and carry their seal on all our labels
o Signatory and Member of Campaign for safe cosmetics (www.safecosmetics.org)

Where Can I Get More Information About Other Chemicals That Are Harmful For Our Skin And/Or Body?

There is a lot of information on the following websites:
www.safecosmetics.org
www.ewg.org

Why Are Artificial Colours Or Fragrances Bad For The Skin?

Skin care products should not contain artificial/synthetic fragrances or colours as they have no therapeutic value. Many fragrances are produced from ingredients that are cheap and known to be toxic or carcinogenic. Skin is the largest organ of the body. Anything you put on it can be easily absorbed through the pores. When you use skin care products, they are applied all over the face, neck, and body. This covers a lot of surface area and, therefore, a great deal of chemical absorption occurs (Source – www.ewg.org). They are commonly known to cause allergies and sensitivities.

La Mav products are 100% natural and certified organic and will never contain artificial or synthetic colours or fragrances.

What Are Polyethylene Glycols?

Polyethylene Glycols are used as synthetic emulsifiers, humectants, cleansing agents or surfactants in conventional skincare products e.g. Baby Lotions, Deodorants, Moisturisers, Anti-Itch Creams, Lip Balms etc. These compounds are potentially carcinogenic petroleum ingredients that can alter and reduce the skin’s natural moisture factor. Could increase the appearance of ageing and leave you more vulnerable to bacteria. They are known irritants and cause delayed hypersensitivities and contact dermatitis. They are also found to be contaminated with the impurities e.g. 1,4-dioxane, heavy metals e.g. arsenic, lead which are linked to causing cancer (Source – www.ewg.org). The PEG compounds can also open the pores of the skin allowing the toxins and microorganisms to enter the skin causing acne.

What Are Petrochemicals And Why Are They Not Good For Our Skin?

Petrochemicals (like mineral oil, petrolatum, petroleum jelly, liquid paraffin) are a by-product of the petroleum industry, it comes from crude oil and is used in products as an emollient, giving a “slip and slide” property to a product. They are used in personal care products such as lipsticks, lubricants, baby massage oils etc because they are incredibly cheap. Also used by industry as metal-cutting fluid (Source – www.ewg.org).

Petrochemicals contain cancer-causing contaminants also known as carcinogens. Furthermore, mineral oil prevents the skin from “breathing when applied.” As such, it clogs pores, interferes with your skin’s natural ability to eliminate toxins, and can lead to acne flare-ups. Also, it is irritating to the skin and if used for any length of time, your skin can become dependent on it, causing chapping and dryness. Lastly, it can lead to premature ageing of the skin.

1,4-Dioxane is another petroleum-derived carcinogenic compound that is used intentionally in dry cleaning solvents, lacquers and automotive coolant. 1,4-Dioxane also shows up in personal care products because it is the byproduct of some chemical ingredient manufacturing processes, including the process by which sodium lauryl sulfate becomes sodium laureth sulfate (Source – www.safecosmetics.org).

What Are Parabens And Why Are They Harmful?

Parabens are a group of chemicals that are known as synthetic preservatives in many conventional cosmetic products so that their products can have a long shelf life. Common parabens include methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben and ethylparaben. The reason is purely economical. However, studies suggest that they may cause cancer and interfere with the body’s endocrine system, as well as causing allergic reactions and skin rashes. Parabens are absorbed through intact skin and from the gastrointestinal tract and blood. U.K. researchers found measurable concentrations of six different parabens in 20 human breast tumors. The study highlights the need for more research on the potential link between products containing parabens and increased breast cancer risk (Source – www.safecosmetics.org).

What We Leave Out And Why?

As a Certified Organic Range La Mav Anti-ageing products will never contain the following ingredients:

• Petrochemicals and other synthetic substances
• Harmful preservatives like paraben and sodium benzoate
• Talc
• Artificial fragrance or colour
• Chelating agents based on EDTA and its salts
• Suphonation, ethoxylation and propoxylation
• Polysorbates
• Alkyl Sulphates (eg Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulphate)
• Alkyl Ether Sulphates (eg Sodium Laureth Sulphate, Ammonium Laureth Sulphate)
• Polyethylene Glycol
• Ethanolamides (eg Cocamide DEA, Cocamide MEA)
• Genetically modified organisms

La Mav is strictly against using synthetic chemicals. Research shows that majority of what we put on our skin is absorbed through the tiny pores. A strong relationship exists between synthetic chemicals and organ system toxicity, allergies, developmental/reproductive toxicities, neurotoxicity, endocrine disruption (link to cosmetic database – www.cosmeticdatabase.com and www.ewg.com). We strongly believe in using plant origin ingredients that are natural and organic as your safety and health are of paramount importance to us.

I Have Pigmentation What Should I Use?

Melanin is the pigment responsible for the colour of our skin and hair. Our skin is susceptible to damage due to environmental agents, physiological changes and psychological factors leading to:

o The development of irregular pigmentation including melasma (chloasma or localized discoloration)
o Age spots (Lentigo senilis) or liver spots (associated with sun damage or ageing sometimes appearing as raised spots or Seborrheic keratoses)
o Freckles (Lentigo aestiva)

Whatever the cause, the end result is pigmentation.

La Mav solution:
o Cleanse and Tone twice daily
o Use LaMav Skin Brightening Complex to brighten and lighten the complex
o Treat with Antioxidant Skin Booster and Rosehip Rescue Oil every alternate day

I Want To Maintain My Skin And I Am In My Sixties?

In your 50’s and 60’s the skin becomes more listless due to thinning, loss of water and moisture and the supportive network. Skin also starts pigmenting due to age. In these years, skin needs extra care, attention and nourishment.

Aim to age gracefully by putting the moisture back into the skin. La Mav strongly recommends the Cleanse – Tone – Hydrate routine. Apart from this, to instantly see results use Line Perfector to soften lines and Skin Brightening Complex to help brighten the dull complexion. Treat daily with All-in-One Line Smoothing Serum, Antioxidant Skin Booster or Rosehip Rescue Oil. Take special care of the area under the eyes and finally, use the Lip Enhancer.

I Am In My 40s Which La Mav Products Are The Best For Me?

As the skin ages, the first sign we see is increased dryness due to breakdown of the supportive network -Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen and Elastin. Moisture retention is markedly reduced which leads to the formation of lines that with time leads to wrinkles. The area around the eyes is the most vulnerable as there are less pores in this area to hydrate regularly.

La Mav Answer:
o Cleanse and Tone.
o Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate with Wrinkle Smoother Complex in the morning and Night repair Formula at night.
o Treat with All-in-one Line Smoothing Serum once daily which protects, lift, hydrate and firm your skin
o Do not forget to exfoliate regularly to remove the dead skin cells, as the dead layer of skin cells deepens the wrinkles.
o Use Antioxidant Skin Booster once a day to boost your skin’s ability to fight the free radical cell damage.
o Never forget to treat the area around the eyes twice daily with Eye Repair Gel or Firming Eye Lotion.

TIP: Rosehip Rescue Oil can also be used on its own in place of an Eye Gel or Eye Lotion.

What Should I Use To Protect My Skin From Environmental Damage?

As we step into our 20s and 30s, the products we use in our teenage years are no longer suitable for the skin. We recommend using products to combat environmental factors such as UV damage, dirt/dust/smoke.

La Mav solutions:

o Cleanse and Tone your skin twice daily to reveal the freshness and to get rid of the dead layer of cells and pollutants.
o Follow with Wrinkle Smoother Complex in the morning and Night repair Formula at night to hydrate and protect the skin.
o The area around the eyes need special attention as the stress of work, late nights and over work can cause under eye bags and dark circles to appear very quickly.

What Causes Ageing?

Skin ageing is natural and occurs due to many factors. They may be external (environmental e.g. pollution, UV exposure etc.) or from internal origin (hormonal imbalance, stress, diet etc). Whatever their origin, they lead to a loss of skin elasticity. Internal ageing begins at 20-25 years of age, but external ageing begins way before that due to the environmental stresses. To combat internal ageing it is very important to follow a healthy lifestyle nourishing your body inside and out.

When Would I Start Seeing Improvement On My Skin?

Your skin will start feeling soft and supple instantly. When the correct regimen is followed with La Mav products you will start noticing the positive changes in your skin within 1-2 weeks.

With continued use the anti-ageing effects are visible within 1-2 months (click here to see the benefits of our active ingredients).

What Routine Should I Follow?

A simple morning and evening routine is based on the following steps:

1. Cleanse – to remove traces of dirt, dust, excess oil and pollution.
2. Tone – to balance the pH level of the skin and hydrate.
3. Polish – polish or exfoliate to remove the dead skin cells that do not shed naturally.
4. Treat – use treatment (for mature, stressed, dry and damaged skin) – to provide extra nourishment needed for stressed or damaged skin

o OFC (Organic Food Chain)

Which Anti-Ageing Ingredients Are Used In La Mav’s Anti-Ageing Range?

1) Hyaluronic Acid is produced naturally by the body and provides continuous moisture to the skin. With age, the ability of the skin to produce Hyaluronic Acid decreases causing the skin to wrinkle and sag. By using it topically in a serum or moisturiser, much of the moisture loss can be replenished, revitalizing dry, mature and ageing skin. To be effective, the correct form of Hyaluronic Acid and sufficient quantity needs to be used. La Mav uses a natural source of hyaluronic acid to maintain and regulate optimum hydration level, which increases the skin’s firmness and helps reduce the wrinkles and fine lines.
2) Galactaric Acid is a natural potent antioxidant that protects the skin from pollution and aggression. It prevents the extrinsic ageing.
3) Ascophyllum Nodosum is a marine extract that lightens and exfoliates. It is a powerful antioxidant that provides protection against ageing of the skin and appearance of dark spots. (Link to before and after photo)
4) Chlorella Vulgaris is a perfect anti-ageing marine extract that corrects the vascular imperfections (link to before and after photos), lightens the appearance of dark circles (link to before and after photos) and stretch marks (link to before and after photos).
5) Hydrolysed Rhizobian Gum and Acacia Senegal Gum are two natural polymers that tighten skin through mechanical action leading to immediate decrease in wrinkle depth diminishing fine lines. (Link to before and after photos).
6) Phytic Acid is extracted from wheat bran and is an antioxidant anti-ageing ingredient and a skin lightener.
7) Commiphora Mukul Resin Extract is a natural anti-ageing ingredient that tones and firms skin by filling the wrinkles and plumping the skin.
8) Argania Spinosa Extract is also called a flash cosmetic ingredient that immediately tightens skin (Link to before and after photos) and reduces wrinkles (Link to before and after photos).
9) Pisum Sativum Extract improves skin firmness and elasticity. It hydrates skin and protects and repairs damaged cells.
