Why is bamboo useful for your skin and home?

How Can Bamboo Help You?

For this week's infographic feature we collaborated with the lovely folks from Bamboo Village! It’s been a pleasure talking to them and when a topic was decided on, we instantly agreed on bringing you the amazing benefits of bamboo. Nope, it’s not just for pandas! You can use it in your everyday life from beauty to clothing to cleaning!

Bamboo is a remarkable and highly versatile natural resource. For many centuries it has been utilized in Asia in a range of uses, including in cooking, construction, transport, textiles, and medicine. It is only relatively recently that the Western world has discovered how bamboo offers a wide range of benefits and an eco-friendly solution to many of our modern requirements. Bamboo is, quite simply, a wonderful, green resource that is hugely beneficial both to the way we want to live our lives and to the environment. But how can it help you?

WHY CHOOSE IT FOR YOURSELF?

1. Supremely soft, silky, and luxurious to the touch – Envelop yourself in truly unparalleled comfort.

2. Hypoallergenic – The eco-friendly bamboo fibers do not irritate the skin. Gentler than many manmade fibers, bamboo is a natural solution for those with sensitive skin.

3. Antibacterial – Bamboo is inherently antibacterial, making it a great option for socks and undergarments as it provides extra protection against nasties.

4. Breathable and thermo-regulating – Stay comfortable whatever the weather; bamboo keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter.

5. More absorbent than cotton – Helps to wick moisture away from the skin.

6. UV protective – Protect you and your loved ones from the sun’s rays in comfort.

WHY INCLUDE IT IN YOUR DIET?

Bamboo has a number of health benefits when consumed.

19. Promote your digestive health – it will help regulate and encourage digestion

20. Control your blood pressure and cholesterol – studies show it has properties proven to assist in blood pressure and cholesterol management.

21. Low-calorie content Bamboo shoots have only twenty-seven calories per one hundred grams.

22. Anti-oxidant and Anti-inflammatory – Bamboo shoots contain a high amount of phenolic acids. These acids are known to have high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

HOW TO ADD IT TO YOUR BEAUTY REGIME?

23. Bamboo Milk – extracted from bamboo leaves and stems with claims to be a stimulant. Look for a body wash that capitalizes on this creamily moisturizing, uplifting ingredient.

24. Bamboo Powder – has antiseptic and astringent qualities, which prove awesome for oily and blemish-prone skin, and is rich in minerals. The finely milled powder can be mixed into masks and scrubs to work as a gentle exfoliant.

25. Bamboo Charcoal – is another way that bamboo brings both incredible detoxifying abilities and gentle sloughing to soaps and facial cleansers. It will help remove impurities without irritating your skin.

26. Bamboo Extract – is a rich source of natural silica that promotes hair growth and helps make existing hair stronger. Using bamboo shampoos and conditioners will promote fullness and body, and mascara can assist in plumping up those lashes.

HOW IT CAN HELP THE ENVIRONMENT

27. Sustainable – Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world. Once harvested, bamboo can replenish itself within a year and some species grow a whopping 120cm per day!

28. Naturally pest-resistant – Since bamboo requires no chemicals and very little water to grow, it is an environmental wonder-plant.

29. Minimal Irrigation Required – Cotton farming, on the other hand, famously requires extensive irrigation and chemical spraying – a single cotton T-shirt can use up to 2700 liters of water in the growing process! Bamboo is by far the greener option.

30. Helps you breathe easy – As if this were not enough, bamboo absorbs more carbon dioxide from the air than either cotton or timber. It also releases more oxygen into the environment which improves air quality.

31. Biodegradable – Bamboo is 100% natural and biodegradable which gives conscientious consumers real peace of mind. Once you have no further use for a bamboo product you can rest easy, knowing that it will return to the Earth leaving a minimal environmental impact.
