Eating a rainbow of colours when it comes to fruits and vegetables is wonderful not only for your health, but for the health and appearance of your skin too. Let’s take a look at the top foods for your skin that fall under every colour of the rainbow. Some you have heard of, but others might be new to you! Remember to always try and buy only local and organic fresh produce

Fruits!

RED: GRAPES

Grapes are one of my favourite snacks due to their delicious natural sweetness and if you have never tried them frozen before then you are truly missing out! What can they do for your skin though? The main compound in the skin and seeds of red grapes is a
potent antioxidant called resveratrol, which is vital for controlling the ageing process. They are also rich in other antioxidants that protect the skin from pollution and toxin damage. In fact, the seeds and skins of red grapes are 20 times more powerful than Vitamin C and 50 times more powerful than Vitamin E!

ORANGE: APRICOTS

When a fruit is as delicious as an apricot it might be hard to believe it is actually good for you. Apricots include some of the best vitamins and antioxidants for your skin, including Vitamin A, Vitamin C and lycopene. Together these vitamins keep your skin smooth, hydrated and firm.

YELLOW: FIGS

Yellow figs are one of those tasty and unique foods for your skin that you don’t hear of everyday, but are certainly worth it if you can get your hands on them! They are rich in polyphenols and flavanoids, which are plant-based antioxidants that help to protect your skin by fighting against the damaging effects of free-radicals.

GREEN: AVOCADOS

You might have always thought of avocados as a vegatable, but this green superfood is in fact a fruit. Rich in healthy fatty acids essential for beautiful skin, avocados are full of vitamin E, vitamin C, moisturizing monounsaturated fatty acids as well as powerful antioxidant carotenoids. All these wonderful ingredients work together to
prevent and minimize fine lines and wrinkles, to moisturize your skin and to keep it firm and young.

BLUE: BLUEBERRIES

Blueberries are definitely at the top of the list of best foods for your skin!. Blueberries are a potent source of anthocyanins, which are powerful antioxidants that protect your skin from damage such as pollution and cigarette smoke that can lead to aged, dehydrated and tired-looking skin. They protect your skin from the inside out, providing the highest degree of protection. In fact, eating a bowl of blueberries before you start your day can provide an instant radiance boost to your skin giving you a beautiful glow!

PURPLE: PLUMS

Purple plums are rich in beta-carotene and Vitamin E, which helps the body to fight the obvious signs of ageing including loss of elasticity and wrinkles. Plums also possess anti-inflammatory properties and help to increase circulation, thus making this fruit a wonderful option for those suffering from inflammatory skin conditions such as
acne.

Vegetables!

RED: TOMATOES

Tomatoes are truly wonderful for the skin and are often also used as a
face-mask to achieve a beautiful glowing skin. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that efffectively works as a sunscreen from within. Lycopene also retains the moisture content in the skin, which is fantastic for keeping your skin young as nothing ages a skin faster than dehydration.

ORANGE: PUMPKIN

The bright orange colour of pumpkins promises that this vegetable includes a variety of healthy antioxidants and other nutrients that will greatly benefit your skin. Pumpkin includes Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E, all of which are very beneficial to the health and appearance of not only your skin, but your hair too!

YELLOW: YELLOW PEPPERS

Red and green peppers usually get all the attention, but yellow peppers are certainly not one to be overlooked when it comes to foods for your skin. Yellow peppers are rich in a variety of vitamins including B vitamins and potassium, but it is its vitamin C content that you want to take note of.
Vitamin C provides anti-inflammatory benefits in your body helping to prevent and treat skin conditions like acne. Vitamin C is also essential to help build collagen, which is necessary to keep your skin firm, young and supple.

GREEN: LEAFY GREENS

Leafy greens include kale, spinach and collards just to name a few. Apart from their outstanding benefits to your health,
leafy greens also contribute to a healthy, beautiful skin. They have a high water content meaning that they will keep your skin hydrated. They are also rich in skin-loving antioxidants including vitamin C, lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamin E. Leafy greens are also rich in beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is essential to keep your skin smooth, hydrated as well as to protect it against sun damage.

BLUE: BLUE POTATOES

Wow! Who knew you could even get your potatoes in blue! You might have heard of yellow or red potatoes and while blue is definitely a colour new to most of us, this interesting vegetable sure does exist! Native to South America, blue potatoes offer all the same benefits of their cousins such as regulating blood pressure and preventing high cholesterol. What do they do for your skin? Well, all fruits and vegetables containing the same rich blue pigment as blue potatoes are rich in antioxidants called anthocyanins that protect your skin from free radical damage and help to keep you looking young. Think of it as a powerful anti-aging cream, however instead of just applying it on the outside its doing its work from the inside.

PURPLE: PURPLE PEPPERS

Purple Peppers might also be a new vegetable that you might not have heard of before. Purple peppers turn purple in the intermediate phases between green and red on the plant. If picked and eaten at this colour you will receive even more benefits than from the other pepper colours. The deeper the colour of a fruit or veg, the more antioxidants present that protect against those harmful free radicals.
