When it comes to skincare, many of us focus primarily on the face, but our body also deserves attention and care. After all, our skin is the largest organ, and it plays a crucial role in protecting us from harmful elements like bacteria, pollution, and the sun. Just as you nourish your face with specific products and routines, your body too can benefit from regular skincare love!

We are taught from a young age how important it is to introduce a consistent skincare routine to maintain optimal skin health, but when it comes to the neck down our skin is often forgotten. If you want to maintain a healthy glow from head to toe it’s just as important to protect your body from sun damage, dryness and irritation. When the skin on our body is neglected you can end up with a noticeable ageing contrast between the face and the rest of your body.

There are many body-care products on the market, but most are just well-marketed moisturisers. If you really want to do something kind for your complexion and start seeing noticeable results on your body skin, you have to reach for Ayurvedic Body Care.

Translated to “the science of life”, Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest healing systems, with roots deeply planted in ancient India. Ayurveda is a philosophy that believes our body, mind and spirit are interlinked - made up of the 5 elements of space, air, fire, water and earth. These energies (Doshas) exist in a delicate balance and influence how our bodies feel and function, including the health of our skin.

GARSHANA DRY BODY BRUSHING

Any good skincare routine begins with some form of exfoliation. Removing dull, dead skin prior to applying treatments and moisturisers allows your leave-on products to actually absorb into the skin where their active ingredients can get to work. The same applies to the skin on your body. While the thought of starting a whole new skincare routine for your body may seem time consuming, you’ll be relieved to learn that Garshana Dry Body Brushing can be completed in as little as 5 minutes per day and easily incorporated into your daily shower or bath routine. You’ll not only get the benefits of exfoliation, you’ll also improve blood flow while stimulating lymphatic drainage!

Try this daily Garshana Dry Body Brushing Routine pre shower or bath:

  • On dry skin before a bath or shower, begin your Garshana practice by using firm, short strokes across the soles of the feet.

  • Continue with upwards strokes to brush the legs, then circular motions around and behind the knees, before returning to long sweeping strokes up the thighs towards the buttocks.

  • To brush the arms, begin at the hands, using sweeping upwards strokes up your forearms, around the elbow and up towards your armpits.

  • Then, use circular clockwise motions to brush the belly in order to assist with the natural flow of digestion.

  • Follow with the lower back, again using upward strokes as much as possible, before gently brushing downwards from the neck towards your heart.

  • To complete your Garshana practice, follow with your daily Abhyganga massage and a warm shower.

LAMAV AYURVEDIC BODY OIL

More than just a moisturiser, our Ayurvedic Body Oils improve skin tone and firmness while reducing the appearance of scarring and sun damage. Developed following the traditional Ayurvedic method of incorporating the whole herb in our formulations, each LAMAV Ayurvedic Body Oil has been made with our proprietary Ayurvedic Wellness Blend of Ashwagandha, Amla and Holy Basil to work synergistically within selected formulations - fighting external stressors, inflammation and firming the skin.

The oil is infused over a period of 14 days to ensure its beneficial properties and healing energy remains, before being blended with a carrier oil that has been selected for its ability to absorb and retain all the body and beauty-boosting benefits of each ingredient. These self-care meets skincare body oils are fast absorbing while delivering on hydration, improving skin tone and offering an experience of self-love that every body deserves.

Use our Nourish, Uplift or Unwind Body oil to complete an Abhyanga Massage to enrich and hydrate the skin, improve tone and texture, whilst also feeding the skin’s natural microbiome and strengthening its defences.

Abhyanga Massage can be completed in as little as 5 minutes following your Garshana Dry Body Brushing treatment to deeply care for your mind, body and skin before jumping into a warm shower to wash the worries of the day away. There really is no better way to unwind and care for your body after a busy day.

How to: Abhyanga Massage

  • Before showering or bathing, take your Ayurvedic Body Oil and warm it beneath hot water or between your palms.

  • Then, begin your massage at the crown of your head, rubbing in a clockwise motion.

  • For your hands and feet, use an open palm, then increase to upwards and downwards strokes to massage your arms and legs.

  • To help assist with your body’s natural flow of digestion and promote improved detoxification, use circular clockwise motions on your belly.

  • Follow with upward strokes towards your chest, from underneath the breasts up towards your collarbone and neck.

  • And finally, finish with your lower back, using your fingertips to massage in a downwards motion to energise the body.

DON’T FORGET YOUR HANDS!

If there’s one part of the body that is undeniably hard working, it’s our hands. We use our hands every day for an endless list of tasks and it’s all so automatic that we generally don’t give these actions any thought at all. Similar to the skin on our face, our hands receive no natural protection from the constant exposure to sun, wind and environmental stressors that cause dry, rough skin and premature ageing. It’s no wonder they are one of the first areas of the body to show significant signs of ageing!

If you really want to prevent premature ageing and give the skin on your hands the nourishment they deserve, you need more than just an everyday hand cream.

LAMAV’s Ayurvedic Vitamin C Hand Cream contains our exclusive Ayurvedic Wellness Blend of Ashwagandha, Amla and Holy Basil to fight external stressors and inflammation whilst firming the skin. It’s also packed full of the following bio-active goodness:

Hyaluronic Acid

A well-known hydration hero for good reason, Hyaluronic Acid has the impressive ability to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, making it an ideal ingredient for dry, damaged hands. It provides an intense burst of moisture to cells, combating the ageing effects of dehydration while plumping the skin.

Vitamin C

This potent antioxidant fights oxidative stress and protects against sun damage, which makes this ingredient particular beneficial for the exposed skin on our hands. As we are unable to biosynthesise our own Vitamin C it is also essential for healthy skin function including the production of collagen.

Licorice Root Extract

Dry, damaged hands can often become sensitive and inflamed, particularly if regularly exposed to harsh elements or over-washing. If this sounds like your hands, Licorice Root Extract is a must have ingredient when it comes to caring for your hands. This potent anti-inflammatory contains high levels of antioxidants to enhance skin healing and brighten the skin.

CoEnzyme Q10

Co-Enzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant which works to scavenge free radicals, preventing and reducing environmental damage. This multi-tasking ingredient will assist with combating signs of ageing including wrinkles and pigmentation.

Our Vitamin C Hand Cream is fast absorbing and provides a powerful antioxidant shield, making this a must have for the hand bag and bedside table. Speaking of bedside - why not treat your hands a few times per week to an Ayurvedic Hand Massage to really get you settled into bed?

  • Apply a generous amount of LAMAV’S Vitamin C Hand Cream, and once absorbed, follow with your chosen Ayurvedic Body Oil.

  • Begin massaging the palm starting at the joints just below the fingers using a mixture of side to side strokes and circular motions.

  • As you work your way down to the lower part of the palm that meets the wrist take some time to massage the thicker muscle points below the thumb and little fingers.

  • Use long sweeping strokes through the middle of the palm working from the bottom up towards the fingers.

  • Now, focusing on the back of the hand, relieve sore joints with firm circular motions around each knuckle and finish each finger with a cuticle massage.

  • Moving down to the forearm, use an open palm to complete up and down strokes at a pressure that feels right for you.

Taking care of your body’s skin is just as important as caring for the skin on your face. By following a consistent skincare routine that includes LAMAV’s Ayurvedic Body Care and rituals, you can maintain soft, smooth, and healthy skin. Be mindful of your body and skin’s needs, and don’t forget daily SPF!

Unfortunately, however, she quickly discovered just how complicated it was to treat sensitivity and pigmentation naturally. When dealing with skin pigmentation it can be all-encompassing as you become fixated on repairing and healing the complexion – and at the time.
