By now we all know that cleansing and moisturising are a must in any skin regime. But if you’re looking to achieve the glowy skin you see all over Instagram, then exfoliation is what you need.

But first, let’s talk about what exfoliation is and just how it’s going to unlock the most radiant skin of your life.

Exfoliation at its core is the process of removing dead cells from the outermost layer of our skin’s surface. But wait… doesn’t our skin do that itself? Typically, yes it does every 28 days when we’re in our teens BUT, as we get older, our natural removal process slows down. Rude right?

Enter: exfoliants. Their purpose is to give our skin a helping hand to ensure that dead skin cells dissolve, allowing fresh new skin to the surface. And if you’re thinking, but do I reallllly need to exfoliate? The answer is yes, everyone does. Beyond the appearance of textured skin, a build up of dead skin cells can wreak havoc on our complexion. From interfering with our skin’s natural oil production to increased acne and even a breakdown of collagen you can quickly say hello to fine lines and wrinkles without the addition of exfoliation into your routine.

When it comes to picking the right product, you’ve got two types to pick from:

  • Physical exfoliants:

Jojoba Exfoliating Scrub

Physical exfoliation is most easily found and has been around for years. The beauty of a physical scrub is it gives you the control to buff away the dead skin cells. Our Jojoba Exfoliating Scrub is thick and creamy with small jojoba beads to help to resurface the skin without being abrasive. Packed with antioxidants from the Caviar Finger Lime and Bilberry Fruit Extract, you’ll notice increased blood flow and circulation after one use. We’ve also added Aloe Vera Leaf Juice and Chamomile extract to account for any redness or sensitization.

  • Chemical exfoliants:

AHA Face Exfoliant

Chemical exfoliation is achieved using ingredients like glycolic, lactic or salicylic acid. Unlike physical exfoliation and the motion of scrubbing away the dead skin cells, it works by loosening glue between the skin cells, helping them slough off. Chemical exfoliation can be highly effective but also stripping on the skin if you go in with an ingredient that is too harsh for your skin to handle. That’s why we’ve formulated our AHA Face Exfoliant with Fruit Acids – because they’re naturally rich in lactic and citric acid which are a bigger molecule. What does this mean though? Well, you get all the exfoliation benefits without any of the irritation. We’ve also added Matcha Powder (which gives it the gorgeous green coloring) because it’s rich in antioxidants and works with the Fruit Acids to fight against any free radical damage.

Now that you know why exfoliation is a must, let’s talk about where it fits in your routine. You’ll want to add this in after cleansing at night ONLY, a few times a week. We recommend starting with once a week, and then slowly moving up to twice a week on non-consecutive days. Follow up with a hydrating serum, (our picks are our Hyaluronic Hydra-Max Serum or Commiphora Plumping Serum) a dollop of moisturiser and you’ll wake up to instantly glowier skin (with full results presenting themselves within 4-6 weeks of continued use).

Happy exfoliating!
