Our delicate eye area is one of the first areas of the face to show signs of ageing. The muscles and skin around the eye area is constantly in use, responsible for continually changing facial expressions along with squinting and blinking thousands of times per day. As we age our natural collagen and elastin production begins to slow down, leading to more noticeable damage to the skin, usually in the form of fine lines and wrinkles.
The search for skincare solutions that target and reduce the signs of ageing around the eye area is one that all skincare consumers have in common. Unfortunately when it comes to skincare alone, there is no magic lotion that will completely reverse the signs of ageing. However, there are under-eye products available that will assist with improving the appearance of under-eye wrinkles, dark circles and help with slowing further signs of ageing. The key to results is finding products that contain potent but gentle bio-actives, and using them consistently.
WHY WE NEED EYE CREAM
The skin around our eyes, also known as the periocular area, is up to 10 times thinner than the surrounding areas of the face. This area of the face is also lacking oil glands, making it more susceptible to dryness and irritation. When you combine these factors with a decline in collagen and elastin production, you can see why it’s so important to have a dedicated eye care routine using natural products designed to support this highly used, delicate area.
THE BEST AGE TO START USING EYE CREAM
Ageing is inevitable, particularly around the eye area. When it comes to maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin and slowing the signs of ageing, prevention and consistency is key! Introducing an eye cream in your 20’s is an ideal time to begin protecting and strengthening the skin’s barrier from environmental and lifestyle factors that may cause premature ageing in this delicate skin region.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EYE CREAM AND YOUR MOISTURISER
Can you use your everyday moisturiser under the eyes or as an eye cream? The short answer is maybe. But should you? Probably not.
The ingredients used in your daily moisturiser may not be suitable for the delicate skin around the eyes. Depending on the moisturiser and your skin type, it may contain active ingredients that are not designed to be used under the eye, which could lead to serious irritation. One obvious ingredient to look out for in your moisturiser and avoid using around the eye area is SPF.
Eye creams are specifically formulated for the delicate skin around the eye, containing gentle ingredients that are designed to nourish the skin and target areas of concern such as dark circles and wrinkles.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST EYE CREAM FOR YOU
Dark Circles & Bags Under the Eye
Dark circles and puffiness is a common problem. Lack of sleep, poor nutrition and not enough water intake can all contribute to dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. In addition to more rest, water and healthy food choices, introducing a brightening eye gel can assist with revitalising tired eyes.
Our cooling, Anti-Dark Circle Eye Gel instantly soothes puffy, tired eyes and will help to diminish dark circles with regular use. It instantly hydrates and brightens, leaving you with a fresh, youthful glow. This Eye Gel contains natural, potent bio-actives to deliver instant and long term benefits:
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that promotes visibly brighter and evenly-toned skin, by protecting the skin from oxidative stress. It brightens the under eye, while reducing hyperpigmentation and supports collagen production to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Kakadu Plum has the highest concentration of nutrient-available vitamin C of any fruit in the world. This antioxidant powerhouse fights off free radicals and assists to reduce the signs of ageing.
Derived from seaweed, Chorella Vulgaris is a microalgae rich in amino acids. It supports collagen production and preserves elastin to keep skin under the eyes smooth and firm. This powerful nutrient assists with skin restructuring while correcting and reducing pigmentation and dark circles around the eye area.
Rumex Extract (a natural plant extract) is used to treat hyperpigmentation by inhibiting the enzyme (tyrosinase) which causes the development of pigmentation in skin. The result is a more even-toned under eye area.
Licorice Root Extract is known as nature’s skin brightener, as it contains compounds to lighten the skin and reduce the signs of pigmentation. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties to help improve skin healing and reduce puffiness.
Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Fine lines and wrinkles is something that we’ll all experience over time, and whilst there’s no natural way to completely prevent or eliminate wrinkles, the LAMAV Firming Eye Lotion contains 7 potent actives containing proven anti-wrinkle properties to increase firmness and reduce the signs of ageing.
How it works:
This velvety cream will leave skin visibly lifted and toned with regular use and provides instant hydration to sooth and smooth the delicate eye area.
Paracress Extract is known as natures answer to injectables. It is a powerful anti-wrinkle ingredient designed to relax facial muscles and limit contractions that can lead to deeper facial wrinkles.
Rich in photo-actives, Caviar Lime contains naturally high levels of fruit acids and antioxidants to gently exfoliate and hydrate the skin. It also contains a serious hit of vitamin C and ferulic acid to help repair skin on a cellular level. Essential amino acids work to lock moisture into the skin to sooth and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Derived from Wakame, Fucoidan Extract has impressive scientific results. It has shown to increase the expression of anti-ageing protein, increase moisture retention by up to 30% and helps to impede collagen breakdown. An age-defence powerhouse!
Davidson Plum is a well-known Australian native for good reason. This phyto-nutrient superstar is rich in vitamin E and zinc, and has powerful antioxidants benefits to help preserve collagen, brighten and firm the skin.
Chlorella Vulgaris Extract assists to stimulate collagen production and firm the skin by preserving elastin while fighting the effects of premature ageing. It also corrects and reduces vascular imperfections, pigmentation and dark circles.
Hydration hero, Hyaluronic Acid provides a serious hit of moisture to plump and smooth the skin around the eye area.
A collection of botanically-sourced lipids have also been included to support the skin’s protective barrier function, resulting in improved firmness and elasticity.
Dry and Sensitive Under Eyes
As the tissue around the eyes is so thin, it can be prone to dryness and irritation, resulting in more prominent fine lines and wrinkles. It’s important to use a deeply nourishing eye product that will not only moisturise, but also strengthen the skin’s barrier.
Our Intense Repair Eye Balm was formulated to hydrate, firm and strengthen the delicate eye area. It provides instant hydration to soothe, rejuvenate and brighten dry under eyes.
We’ve included some heavy duty hydrators when it comes to ingredients, to provide instant relief and long term age-defence benefits.
CoEnzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant that neutralises and prevents damage caused by oxidative stress due to ageing. Topically CoQ10 assists in reducing the visible signs of ageing including fine lines, pigmentation and wrinkle depth.
Naturally rich in fatty acidd, Mango Butter deeply nourishes the skin whilst reducing inflammation.
Super soothing Sandalwood Seed Oil contains a complex profile of omega essential fatty acids to provide hydrating, anti-ageing and skin-soothing benefits. It helps to target fine lines and wrinkles, strengthen and protect the skin’s delicate barrier function and support skin hydration.
Derived from chamomile, Bisabolol calms and soothes irritated skin. Rich in antioxidants, it provides protection from free radical damage, and clinical studies show its benefits in reducing hyperpigmentation.
Raspberry oil is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and also includes phytosterols to replenish the skin's moisture barrier, resulting in smooth, plump under eyes and long-lasting hydration.
