6 Homemade Beauty Recipes For Flawless Summer Skin

6 Homemade Beauty Recipes for Flawless Skin

Today, we'd like to invite you to try 5 easy DIY beauty recipes that will help you enhance the natural glow of our skin and get it ready for the summer season. Let's see what we have for you...

Baking Soda + Mineral Water

Even though this recipe is fairly simple, it does wonders for sensitive skin. It may sound counterintuitive to put alkaline substance on your skin (skin's pH is slightly acidic), but trust me - if you don't overdo it, you won't have any issues.

The recipe: Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with some water to get a consistency suitable for applying. Massage gently into the skin and wash off with lukewarm water.

Honey + Cinnamon + Coconut Flakes

Honey is packed with antioxidants (neutralize free radicals), anti-inflammatory compounds (sooth inflammation) and enzymes (gently stimulate the natural shedding of epidermal cells). Cinnamon and coconut flakes serve as natural exfoliating particles.

NB: Since bee products are known allergens, we recommend doing a patch test first, in order to see if your skin reacts to honey.

The recipe: Mix one tablespoon honey with half teaspoon cinnamon and half teaspoon coconut flakes. Apply the mixture to your skin and massage gently for 2-3 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.

Grated Cucumber + Baking Soda

Did you know that Kate Moss recently revealed that her most-kept beauty secret is using cucumber water and ice cubes?

Cucumber is rich in silica – a mineral that strengthens the skin, by protecting the connective tissues. Cucumber effectively reduces puffiness (caused by water retention), without leaving your skin dehydrated. Apart from being soothing and moisturizing, cucumber tightens and tones the skin, which means it can make your pores look smaller.

If you want this mask to double as a scrub -  add baking soda.

The recipe: Grind 1/3 cucumber and add one teaspoon baking soda. Apply the mixture to your face, massage gently for a minute or so and once you are done - leave the mask on for 5 minutes. Rinse with cold water, to further shrink the pores and tone the skin.

Oatmeal + Milk

Oatmeal soothes irritations, helps replenish the protective barrier of the skin and is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties (great for those of you who have acne-prone/sensitive skin).  Oats contain specific polysaccharides, that become jelly-like in contact with water. When applied to the skin they form a thin protective layer that prevents water loss, therefore keeps your skin hydrated.

Milk is a great source of vitamins, proteins and healthy fats - it nourishes the skin, improves elasticity and promotes firmness. To get the best results - opt for full-fat milk. Those of you who struggle with acne can try with yoghurt, instead of milk. Yoghurt is a source of probiotics that are believed to be beneficial for acne-prone skin.

The recipe: Mix 2 tablespoons of oatmeal with approximately 50ml milk (preferably warm) or yoghurt and leave the mixture for 2-3 hour. Apply with circular motions and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Coffee + Brown Sugar + Olive Oil

The best (and probably the most popular) body scrub of all times! Effectively removes dead skin cells, revealing softer and smoother skin surface. Regular body exfoliation boosts microcirculation, hence improves the flow of nutrients to the skin. Another benefit of regular exfoliation is that it makes your skin appear firmer, and might even help diminish celulite and stretch marks.

The recipe: 3 tablespoons coffee, 3 tablespoons olive oil and 1 teaspoon brown sugar. Massage with circular motions for at least 10 minutes. Wash your whole body with warm water and a gentle body wash/shower oil.

6. Sea salt (or Himalayan salt) and Olive Oil

It is not a coincidence sea salt is the main ingredient in many high-end spa treatments. Sea salts have detoxifying properties and are rich in minerals that strengthen your skin, and thus improve its overall condition. While the salt gently exfoliates, the olive oil nourishes the skin in depth and forms a protective layer that prevents moisture loss. The result: Smoother, firmer and healthier skin.

The recipe: Mix 3-4 tablespoons sea salt and the same amount of olive oil. Massage into your skin with circular motions for several minutes. Wash off with warm water to remove any residue from the oil.
