As our largest organ, our skin is our body's first line of defiance – and during winter, the environmental assaults it's faced with can leave us with a dull and dehydrated complexion come spring.

The good news is, however, that combating seasonal skin changes can be as simple as refreshing your skincare regime and taking the time to give your skin a little extra love and attention. Here are 5 tips on how to achieve hydrated glowing skin – right now.

1. CONSIDER YOUR SKIN’S NEEDS

Just as we turn to heartier, warming foods during winter as our bodies call for extra nourishment, our skin also has different needs as we move from season to season. While during summer our skin tends to be oilier and is exposed to more ultraviolet radiation from the sun, during winter our skin can become dry and dehydrated as it struggles to adjust from warmer indoor environments to the harsher, chillier outdoors.

As a result, it’s essential to refresh your skincare regime from season to season to ensure you’re providing it with the nourishment it needs. It could be as simple as adding a facial mist to your routine for an extra burst of hydration.

2. CLEANSE GENTLY

During winter it’s easy for our skin to become stripped of its natural oils, leaving us with a dry, irritated or flaky complexion. Instead of selecting a traditional gel cleanser which can continue to strip away precious oils from the skin’s surface, consider an oil or cream cleanser which will help to nourish and protect your skin’s delicate barrier. Our Marula Facial Cleansing Oil, for example, is rich in nourishing oils from camelia and jojoba as well as antioxidants, vitamin C, E and essential fatty acids which help to balance the skin’s natural moisture levels while gently removing dead skin cells.

3. ADD MOISTURE

As we move from winter to spring, our skin’s moisture levels also become depleted, so it’s essential to focus on hydrating ingredients and products that help to lock in moisture. For skin that’s prone to dryness, our Hyaluronan Daily Moisture Crème contains hyaluronic acid which binds to water and nourishes the skin on a cellular level, as well as essential fatty acids from Moroccan Oil and Acai Oil which work to protect the skin’s lipid barrier for intense, long-lasting hydration.

4. FOCUS ON PREVENTION

While we each have different skin concerns, for many of us, fighting the effects of premature ageing is at the top of the list – and something that becomes increasingly apparent as our skin suffers from the environmental assaults of winter. When it comes to fine lines and wrinkles, prevention is undoubtedly better than cure and the key to more youthful-looking skin is, of course,  hydration. Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid not only help to moisturise the skin, but can actually work to improve skin plumpness and elasticity. The delicate skin around our eyes is also often the first to show signs of ageing, so adding a hydrating product like our Firming Eye Lotion which contains organic brown seaweed and paracress extract, to help prevent the breakdown of collagen and smooth wrinkles, can ensure you’re putting your best face forward.

5. NOURISH YOUR SKIN FROM WITHIN

Although the right topical products can certainly work to hydrate and protect the skin on a surface level, it’s also important to consider how you nourish your skin from within. Drinking plenty of filtered water each day and eating hydrating foods is vital for well-hydrated skin. Nourishing soups, stews, broths and herbal teas are all delicious ways to incorporate more hydration into your diet during the chillier winter months.

Like many women, Tarj experienced first-hand how hormonal imbalances can affect the skin and contribute to skin sensitivity and pigmentation. Confronted by its impact, Tarj was committed to finding a safe and effective solution to her skin issues.
Unfortunately, however, she quickly discovered just how complicated it was to treat sensitivity and pigmentation naturally. When dealing with skin pigmentation it can be all-encompassing as you become fixated on repairing and healing the complexion – and at the time.
