Winter weather doesn’t quite favour our skin and collagen is usually the first to fall victim to it. Even if you were religious about your daily skincare routine, chances are that your face feels dry and cracked to the touch after months of windy days and dry indoor air. Come spring, it is time to give your skin a nice thorough overhaul.

But just like you wouldn’t wear your fur coat to the beach, intensive moisturizing creams and thick layers of makeup foundation should also be left in the rear view mirror.

Below we give you 5 tips for preparing your skin for the spring.

Essential Steps For Glowing Skin During The Spring Season

1. Scrub, Scrub, Scrub

First thing you would want to do is get rid of that dull look and dead skin cells that have been building up during winter. Exfoliating will reveal a layer of fresh new skin, which not only looks healthier and feels gentler, but it also absorbs the nutritious ingredients from skin care products better. Choose light exfoliators and fruit acid peels that you can use up to three times a week without fear of going overboard. And always apply a moisturizing mask after scrubbing to help your skin’s recovery.

2. Trade Sunglasses For Eye Care

When the sun gets higher in the sky and the days become longer and brighter, no matter how hard we try, we can’t help but squint. This leads to more fine lines and cracks around the eyes. Although wearing sunglasses helps with prevention, an eye cream formulated with peptides and B group vitamins will diminish the destroying effects of UVA rays AND smooth out the previously formed wrinkles as a bonus.

3. Switch From Creams To Lotions

Moisturizing is the crucial step in skin care, but in the case of moisturizing creams vs. spring, less is more. Heavy, unctuous creams are extremely effective on dry winter skin. However, ingredients like lipids stick to the skin and can only lead to clogged pores and breakouts as the days grow warmer. It is time to switch to lighter oil-free lotions that will keep your skin hydrated but will not weigh it down.

4. Hydrate!

It cannot be stressed enough how important it is to keep the hydration levels in your body at check. All your organs need water, not just the skin. The more, the better. And since we sweat more as the temperatures start rising, there is more to compensate for. If you can’t make yourself to drink 2l of liquids a day, look for alternative sources. Citrus fruits, apples, watermelons, lettuce and carrots can be a great snack and they are packed with water. At night, a moisturizing lotion applied before bedtime will do the job for you.

5. Don't Forget About Sunscreen

This is actually an all-year-round piece of advice, but spring is the time when you should take it more seriously. Simply because we are all keen to spend more time outside than we did in the winter and our skin is not prepared for that. Most dermatologists recommend applying sunscreen every morning, before leaving the house, and reapplying it every two hours. Opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays and choose a higher level of protection (SPF of 30 or higher). After your skin gets used to sun exposure, you can switch to lower SPFs. Don’t worry, you will still get a tan. You will just avoid sunburns. It is also a good idea to wear a hat to additionally protect your face from sun damage since it is more exposed than the rest of your body.

Unfortunately, however, she quickly discovered just how complicated it was to treat sensitivity and pigmentation naturally. When dealing with skin pigmentation it can be all-encompassing as you become fixated on repairing and healing the complexion – and at the time.
