While our mums undoubtedly deserve to be celebrated on a daily (if not hourly!) basis—Mother’s Day provides us with the perfect reminder to show our appreciation.
The good news is though, despite its Hallmark holiday roots, you don’t need to spend a fortune saying ‘thank you’ to Mum. In fact, most mums are probably more grateful for smaller acts of service that acknowledge the love, support and kindness she selflessly gives daily.
So, to inspire you to get creative, here are a few fun and free ways to care for Mum, this Mother’s Day…
Make A Meal
Over the years, how many meals, snacks and suppers has your mum made you? We bet it’s more than you could possibly count. So to return the favour, why not set aside an afternoon to cook up a storm and recreate one of her favourite dishes. If playing chef and cooking a three-course meal isn’t quite your strong suit however, you could always whip up a fool-proof batch of pancakes and opt for the ultimate classic: breakfast in bed.
Clean Up
99 percent of being a mum is cleaning up after everyone! And while that might be a small exaggeration, cleaning the house and tidying up can easily feel like a full-time job—and one that often goes unnoticed. While it might not sound like a super exciting gift, coming home to a clean and tidy house can be a wonderful way to show your appreciation for all those times your mum has gone above and beyond for you.
Pamper Her
Every woman loves a spa day—but while pamper packages at luxe salons can cost an arm and a leg, you can easily recreate the experience at home with a little extra effort. The first step is to create a space that feels both inviting and relaxing. Load up the couch with a few extra towels and cushions, light a candle, play some soft music and keep the lighting low. Then, nab your best products from the bathroom cupboard and line up your facial tools. Ask Mum to pop on her comfiest fluffy robe, then turn your phones to flight mode and get set for an afternoon of pampering.
Not sure which products to use—and in what order? Here’s our LA MAV facial go-to guide
-
Pamper mum with a double cleanse using our Marula Oil Cleanser followed by our Sweet Orange Balancing Cleanser.
-
Then, using the Vegan Mask Brush, apply the Glow Beauty Mask with smooth, fluid strokes. Leave on for at least 15 minutes before gently removing with a warm damp cleansing cloth.
-
Spritz fresh skin with Probiotic Toner before using your fingertips to apply our Omega 3, 6, 7 & 9 Antioxidant Oil.
-
Then, using our Ayurvedic Kansa Wand, apply our Bakuchiol 4% Natural Retinol Alternative using firm upward strokes.
-
Finally, dab on the Intense Repair Eye Balm, applying a thin layer around the eyes. Voila!
Regift A Favourite Book
There’s nothing more relaxing than an afternoon on the couch with a cup of tea and a great book—so if Mum’s a fan of fiction, a simple gift that will deliver hours of pleasure is to share one of your favourite reads with her. Not only is it free, but it’s the perfect sustainable gift idea, too.
Write To Her
Sometimes it can be tough to express how we feel on a day to day basis, but there is nothing more special than receiving a handwritten letter from someone you love. Don’t be worried if stringing together a sentence isn’t your forte, however—we promise that mum will love whatever sentiment you manage to share with her on paper. If you fancy getting creative though, you could always attempt a poem (or borrow one from your favourite poet!).
